Objectives

Developing a New Line of Dietary Supplements for Women's Health Using Existing Portfolio Assets

Environment

  • Health Area: Women's Health
  • Status: Dietary Supplement
  • Phase: Innovation: Development of New Products

Project Requirments

  • Identify Innovative Assets: Identify innovative assets within the existing portfolio specifically for women's health.
  • Validate Health Claims: Validate health claims to support the benefits of the products.
  • Ensure Development Feasibility: Ensure the feasibility of development, including safety, dosage, and formulation.
  • Structure a Rigorous Development Plan: Develop a structured and rigorous development plan.

Project Structuring

Analysis

  • Market Study: Identify trends and unmet needs in women’s health.
  • Scientific Literature Review: Focus on emerging assets and their relevance to women’s health.
  • Portfolio Analysis: Evaluate the client’s portfolio of assets.

Identification of Promising Assets: Compile a list of promising assets from the client’s portfolio that are relevant to addressing women’s health needs.

Selection

  • Gap Analysis: Conduct a gap analysis to identify risks or opportunities within the existing portfolio that could be addressed by new products.
  • Symptom Selection: Choose specific symptoms related to women's health that align with the client’s portfolio and market trends, such as hot flashes, dysmenorrhea, and hormonal dysregulation.
  • Proposal to the Client: Recommend three extract/symptom pairs based on the identified criteria.

Product Selection: Select two new products to develop for the client.

Development

  • Detailed Specification: Develop a detailed specification for each product, including dosage, administration route, and posology, based on literature and health claims.
  • Strategic Development Plan: Construct a strategic development plan for each product, including scientific efficacy and safety studies to be conducted, risk analysis, critical path, and associated Gantt charts.

Deliverable: Provide the client with a clear and actionable roadmap for the development and market introduction of the new products.

Through rigorous management and adherence to budget and schedule, this project enabled the client to clarify their development capabilities in women's health.

It also swiftly enhanced the value of new extracts while controlling R&D costs and minimizing the risk of failure.

The success of this project was greatly supported by the scientific and medical dimension and is closely related to:

  • In-depth Analysis: A thorough analysis of unmet health needs in the women's health sector not covered by dietary supplements.
  • Integration of Development Constraints and Opportunities: Incorporating development constraints and opportunities for dietary supplements allowed for an objective selection of assets from the client's existing portfolio.
  • Health Claims Optimization: Achieving differentiated health claims through dosage optimization based on scientific research.
  • Structured Specifications and Development Plan: Establishing a detailed specification and a structured development plan for each product, including the necessary scientific studies (efficacy and safety), clearly identifying risks and critical path.

Compared to the development of new assets, this project reduced costs, risks, and timelines. The new products will address unmet needs in women's health and offer an effective and reliable alternative to medicinal treatments, while invigorating the client's portfolio.

The return on investment was therefore very positive for the client, with a prospect of rapid market success.
